Kathleen Byrd is a writing teacher who resides in Olympia, Washington, within the territory and lands of the Coast Salish People. Her book of poems, Last Resort, was published by Last Word Press in spring of 2024. She’s currently working on a series of poems for the Nisqually Land Trust as a poet for the national “Writing The Land” book series. She teaches writing at South Puget Sound Community College and served as the fourth poet laureate of Olympia, Washington, where she engaged the community with the literary arts connecting on themes of climate change and place. She received an MFA from Western Washington University in 2021.
