Marmo Gallery is pleased to present Kathy Ross & Doodle City, a two-person exhibition featuring the works of Kathy Ross and Moose Wesler.

Kathy Ross creates sculptural constructions from found and re-purposed materials, transforming them into witty and reflective works that explore the "magical detritus" of the world. Her art is a playful yet profound meditation on freedom and creative energy. Moose Wesler’s intricate ink drawings invite viewers into the intimate worlds of her sketchbooks, which function as visual and written journals. Wesler’s project, Doodle City, captures architectural fantasies, with whimsical details.

Together, Kathy Ross and Doodle City present a compelling dialogue between materiality and mark-making, uniting Ross’s playful, tactile sculptures with Wesler’s intricate, narrative-rich drawings. Ross’s work transforms repurposed materials into sculptural constructions that tease out hidden stories and cultural innuendos, while Wesler’s ink drawings build vibrant, interconnected worlds that blend observation and imagination. Both artists engage with the everyday—Ross through the tangible detritus of the physical world, and Wesler through the fluid, expressive lines of her inkbrush—highlighting the poetic potential in the overlooked and the ordinary. Their work converges in a shared commitment to reinterpreting their environments, inviting audiences to explore how objects, marks, and moments can transform into profound and evocative art.

This event is free and open to the public.

Biographies:

Kathy Ross has been interested in sculpture since discovering the 3-D world at age 18, carving a bar of ivory soap with a nail file. She has managed to be self-supporting and self-employed since 1978, always by making something you could loosely call art. KR has exhibited and sold in galleries, museums, shops, art festivals, retail, wholesale, online, and offline. www.krtins.com

Moose Wesler is a visual artist whose work bridges drawing and printmaking, focusing on observation and storytelling. Their sketchbooks act as intimate journals, capturing the textures of daily life and the gestures of musicians in vibrant, expressive compositions. In more recent years, Wesler has embraced ink drawing for its immediacy, fluidity, and ability to combine line and wash in a single motion.

With an MFA in Printmaking from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and studies at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, her work has been exhibited in solo shows and numerous juried and international exhibitions. Drawing inspiration from artists like David Hockney and William Kentridge, she continues to explore themes of connection and creativity. https://www.doodlecity.com/

Kathy Ross and Doodle City exhibition at Marmo Gallery:

Sometimes I wonder if the world is surprised at where human evolution has led. Who would have thought that something as beautiful and brilliant as human beings could turn against the very ingredients of our own existence? Each of us has borrowed a set of molecules from the universe’s available supply. And we will need to give it back one of these days, like returning a book to the library. So how do we manage to see ourselves as NOT part of the world? We are made out of exactly the same stuff… We aren’t all that different from trees. —Kathy Ross
