Claudia Putnam lives in Bremerton, having moved there with her pets after 42 years on the Colorado Plateau. Her writing is landscape- and character-driven. It engages with all of the places she's lived. Here, she is fascinated by the sense of ancient serenity emanating from this landscape, which also contains active volcanoes and huge faultlines.

Her award-winning poetry and prose books have been published by Moon City Press, Split/Lip Press, and Neutral Zones Press. She has work in dozens of journals, from Rattle, Spillway, and Iron Horse to Sequestrum and Ghost Parachute.

She's had several fellowships, most notably the year-long Bennett residency at Phillips Exeter Academy, and time at Hypatia-in-the-Woods here in Shelton.
