Artist Exchange

  • Marmo 217 W. Cota Street Shelton United States (map)

Join us for the monthly Artist Exchange!

Catherine Alice Michaelis leads this month’s Artist Exchange.

This is a meet-up for local artists and art institutions in Shelton and surrounding areas to exchange ideas and build community. Have a glass of wine or tea and mingle.

Catherine Alice Michaelis (Shelton) has been making artist books for 35 years. She primarily works with antique printing presses and moveable type. In addition, Catherine makes unique books from domestic linens that intimately explore gender, hormones, and ageism, often utilizing subversive stitching.

Currently, Catherine is working on two long term serial projects. The first is An Unreliable Lesbian, a micro-memoir told in a monthly letterpress printed postcard format mailed to subscribers. The second is an ongoing collaboration with Felix Zyrna to create relief printed broadsides that queer language and challenge assumptions. This series, titled Tran-Script, mixes feminisms of past to present and centers the current trans struggle for existence. Their approach is sharply political, giggly, and joyous, resulting in work that explores queer positivity and resilience.
